Queen Kiwi is just a cute fun little stage name I created as my journey continued. My real name is Kira Mata. When I was real little, there was a neighbor of my mom’s that had a little kid who just could not say my name. So, one day he and his older siblings closer to my age started calling me Kiwi and I could not stand it! I was furious over this nickname until one day my mama said, It’s actually very fitting because you know what's in the middle of a kiwi? A Star!"
From that moment on until TikTok came around, I was forever nicknamed Kiwi. When TikTok became a thing, I started making silly little music videos just lip-singing other people’s songs that I really enjoyed and all my followers started calling me “Queen”. Thus began the trademark, Queen Kiwi.
Where it all began...
In September of 2023, I went through a very bad depression. I had planned to leave everyone and everything I loved behind because I didn't feel like I had much of a purpose. I had a voice but never did anything with it. I was a mom and I felt like a girlfriend that never became a wife, and sole provider is all I would be or deserved. I was sitting on a bridge and I said a prayer asking for God to give me any sign that I should stay. At that moment, a car drove by with the "Live Your Life" song by Rhianna blaring and I laughed so hard! I ran to my car and ironically my son called me just to check in just as I sat down. Within 24 hours, I was hiking up this beautiful mountain just about dying out of breath when I made it to the top and experienced an amazing view. That’s when I heard what God was telling me. "There is beauty in the struggle and victory in the pain, you just have to trust him and keep going.” About 6 months later, I got gastric sleeve surgery and lost about 100 lbs. I went from 225 lbs to 125 lbs in about 9 months. Within that time, I chose to go back to school, and it was either cosmetology or music. I had started going out on some weekends with friends to do karaoke. I made quite a few friends. One in particular really went above and beyond to support my music. I asked several people what they thought I should go for and music just seemed to be the bigger buzz. So, I filled out all the papers and started my journey at Full Sail University (FSU). I have learned basically all my editing and video techniques from them and I’m not done.
I have always been a singer/songwriter but now I write, produce, and edit all my music from home. However, I am so much more than that. I am also a mom of 2, a step mom to 2, a glammy to a very cute little boy (which is the last thing I expected at 33), and last but certainly not the least I am a wife to my best friend, Paul, who runs his own Karaoke business at Okee Dokie Karaoke and he is currently my manager. He didn’t ask for that title but with all he does to help me reach my dream, he definitely fits the title and so much more. I honestly don’t know what I would do or where I would be without him and these kids and all the support I’ve gained over the past year from all my fans! So, if you’re a fan, thank you for your support and I hope you stick around cause were just getting started!
